He is the founder, visionary and chairman of the board at Blue Planet Foundation, a public charity in Hawaii whose tireless efforts helped pave the way for the nation\u2019s first policy requiring that 100% of the state\u2019s electricity come from renewable sources by 2045.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, Henk founded Blue Planet Energy, one of the leading providers of energy storage systems (i.e., batteries) that power homes, businesses and critical infrastructure. Henk also serves as chairman of the Pacific International Space Center for Exploration Systems (PISCES), a state agency under the Department of Business, Economic Development &amp; Tourism of Hawaii working to position Hawaii as a leader in space exploration.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to focusing on environmental protection and space exploration, Henk was a pioneer in Japan\u2019s fledgling computer game industry and developed the Black Onyx, the first role-playing game in Japan. He then worked as a senior social scientist with the think-tank SRI International where he coauthored numerous studies of the long-range future; for example,\u00a0<strong>Anticipating Future National and Global Problems<\/strong>\u00a0(for the President\u2019s Science Advisor),\u00a0<strong>Alternative Futures for Environmental Policy<\/strong>\u00a0(for the Environmental Protection Agency),\u00a0<strong>The Future of the Automobile<\/strong>\u00a0(for the Ford Motor Co.), and\u00a0<strong>Limits to the Management of Large, Complex Systems<\/strong>\u00a0(for the President\u2019s Science Advisor).<\/p>\n<p>As a speaker, Duane has given more than 300 keynotes and workshops with audiences ranging from business executives and civic groups to churches and college students.<\/p>\n<p>For the past three years, he has been the executive director of a project that has brought together more than a dozen\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.greattransitionstories.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cGreat Transition Stories\u201d<\/a>\u00a0that offer new cultural narratives for our collective imagination and that can serve help guide us toward a sustainable and meaningful future.
