McPherson\u00a0is an American scientist, professor emeritus of natural resources and ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Arizona. He is best known for promoting the idea of near term extinction (NTE), a term he coined\u00a0about the possibility of human extinction as soon as 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><a href=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/abetterworld.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/apollo-earth-pic.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/abetterworld.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/apollo-earth-pic.jpg?resize=186%2C134\" alt=\"apollo earth pic\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In May 2009, McPherson began transitioning to living on an off-grid homestead in southern New Mexico. McPherson authors a blog called \u201cNature Bats Last\u201d, that focuses on global\u00a0climate change, energy decline and the possibility of imminent human extinction due to the increasing\u00a0accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. On November 1, 2015, McPherson was interviewed on National Geographic Explorer with host Bill Nye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regarding his NTE views, Andrew Revkin in The New York Times said McPherson was an \u201capocalyptic ecologist \u2026 who has built something of an \u2018End of Days\u2019 following\u201d.Michael Tobis, a climate scientist from the University of Wisconsin, said McPherson was out of his depth and \u201cis not the opposite of a denialist.
